You ever just have that moment where your going throughout your day doing normal tasks/activities and you catch that certain smell or see an object that reminds you of a memory of something that just takes you to that moment that occurred “back in the day”?  i.e. fresh cut grass, the scent blowing from the vent where your clothes are drying in the dryer,  (I know this is a weird one) the smell of gasoline or a certain song on the radio, just to name a few…  Well for me, it seems to be BLACKBERRIES that are my trigger.  Yes, you are reading this right.  So what is it about BLACKBERRIES that makes me want to stop what I am doing and just reminisce for a while?

It’s such a nice memory that I have!  I can remember that I was so HAPPY back then.  It was just my brother, sister and I out taking a stroll one cool, breezy sunny day with our empty milk jugs in hand.  We each had one.  The top was only cut out far enough to where the handle started and it had a swoop so that we wouldn’t lose any BLACKBERRIES when we made it to the top.  Now, I don’t know about you, but a gallon jug seemed like A LOT of BLACKBERRIES to pick.  We were about 11 – 13 years old between the three of us.  I can remember how we would challenge ourselves in trying to find the biggest and best patches.  We would run through the woods, get splashed by each other as one would step in a stream, and enjoy the wildlife along the way.  I can still hear our laughs, our echos of each other’s names throughout the woods as we would yell at each other because we would get to far searching for those juicy BLACKBERRIES.  Of course, you know the higher up the mountain you went, the better luck you had.  YEAHHHH, I had so much fun “back in the day” with my brother and sister picking BLACKBERRIES.

So you see, BLACKBERRIES play an important role in my life.  Belive it or not, I don’t come across them that often.  But when I do, I realize that it’s life’s way of saying, “hey: slow down, don’t forget about your past, while your running towards your future.  Sometimes, all you need is to take a walk down memory lane and enjoy the small things life has to offer, even if it comes at you like BLACKBERRIES do…

Congratulations to @casadecrews at Casa de Crews for winning the free class to Simply Art Studios.  I will be in touch with details. Thank you for participating!

  1. I always had to pick twice as many because for some reason the jug wouldn’t stay full. All was fun until the end of the day we all had to be checked for tics standing in the kitchen with nothing on but our underclothes!

  2. It is so funny that you wrote this post, because yesterday my kids and I picked blackberries at Sweetfields farm. We had such a great time! All we could talk and think about were blackberries. 🙂
